There are three that make up the Godhead: The Holy Spirit, the Lord Jesus Christ, and God. It is easy to ascertain that all three spirits of the Godhead are truth. The New Testament plainly states this fact.
The Holy Spirit is Truth
"Even the Spirit of truth; whom the world cannot receive, because it seeth Him not, neither knoweth Him: but ye know Him; for He dwelleth with you, and shall be in you." (John 14:17) Also, 1 John 5:6, "This is He that came by water and blood, even Jesus Christ; not by water only, but by water and blood. And it is the Spirit that beareth witness, because the Spirit is truth."
Jesus is Truth
John 1:14, "And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld His glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and truth."
John 14:6, "Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by Me."
God is Truth
2 Corinthians 1:18, "But as God is true. . ." 1 Thessalonians 1:9, "For they themselves show of us what manner of entering in we had unto you, and how ye turned to God from idols to serve the living and true God;"
To realize that the Godhead is truth, total truth, and that there is no lie anywhere at any point, is just the beginning. Jesus states in John 4:23-24, "But the hour cometh, and now is, when the true worshippers shall worship the Father in spirit and in truth: for the Father seeketh such to worship Him. God is a Spirit: and they that worship Him must worship Him in spirit and it truth."
It is not enough only to realize that the Godhead is truth, we must act upon this Truth and worship God in the manner that He has prescribed in the New Testament.
John Bears Witness of the Truth
Another interesting area to look at, when contemplating the Truth and infallibility of Christ, is the forerunner John the baptizer. John came denying that he was Christ (John 1:19-23), and proclaiming that Christ was soon to come. This in itself should prove that Jesus is true and infallible.
When Jesus was born, King Herod wanted Him killed. Several times in Jesus' life,mobs tried to assault and kill Him, but He always escaped.
If someone is on the FBI's ten most wanted list, the last thing they want is a lot of publicity. See the logic in real truth? Not only did the prophets prophesy that Christ would come some day, but here is John the baptizer saying that Jesus was at that time living among the people. (John 1:26, John 5:33)
The logic here is this: Jesus is Truth. No matter how hard Satan or sinners tried to destroy Him, they could not get rid of or falsify the truth.
Pilate's Plague
Did you know that there is a disease called "Pilate's Plague?" This disease has been around for almost 2,000 years. The first known case of this dreaded disease is reported to have come from Jerusalem. The report goes something like this: Jesus, the man that was Truth, in a physical form sent from God, was on trial. He was sent to a man named Pontius Pilate to be judged. During a conversation with Pilate, Jesus said that the reason for His being born was to bear witness unto the truth. (John 18:37) At this point, Pilate contracted this dreaded disease. He asked Jesus, "What is truth?" (John 18:38) Can you see "Pilate's Plague?" Pilate was looking at Jesus Christ, the man that was truth in the flesh, but he could not see the truth nor understand it.
Many people today have contracted "Pilate's Plague." They may read the Bible from time to time, but they don't really see the Truth (Jesus). They have "Pilate's Plague." They may have had a Christian tell them about Christ, but they don't understand the Truth (Jesus). They have "Pilate's Plague."
If you have "Pilate's Plague," rest assured. There is a cure. Here is the antidote: Jesus Christ. The only prescription needed to get to Jesus (The Truth) is as follows:
* Believe
* Repent
* Confess
* Be immersed in water
* Arise to walk in newness of life
If anyone gives you a different prescription to find truth, they are a "Quack."
Truth vs Lies
Is the Bible part truth and part a lie? NO! The Bible is totally true. It is the infallible, inerrant, unmistakable Word of God.
Some people would have us to believe that because Satan told Eve, "Ye shall not surely die," (Genesis 3:4) that the Bible does lie in various places. When Satan told Eve to eat of the tree, he lied to her. The Bible itself doesn't lie, it does contain a description of a lie, but this is totally different than saying that the Bible itself lies. At any given place where man may think that the Bible is lying, or contradicting itself, it is at that point that the Bible is infallible and it is our own misunderstanding of the Scripture that makes it appear to contain a lie. 1 John 2:21 states that,
". . . no lie is of the truth." Therefore, either the Bible is the Word of God, or else it is the biggest book of lies ever written.
No Truth in Satan
"Ye are of your father the devil, and the lusts of your father ye will do. He was a murderer from the beginning, and abode not in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he speaketh a lie, he speaketh of his own: for he is a liar, and the father of it." (John 8:44) This is a statement that Jesus made concerning the Jews of that day and time. When you think that the Jews had the Son of God with them at that time they could see Him, touch Him, learn of Him; but instead, they decided to follow Satan, who was and is the father of lies.
In John 8:44, Jesus makes an interesting statement, ". . .there is no truth in Satan." Can we, in our feeble minds, imagine a being so corrupt, so mean, so willing to deceive people that he would not have one ounce, one speck, one jot or tittle of truth about him? It is hard to conceive something this bad, but Satan is far more advanced in his cruel techniques than we give him credit. Only through Jesus Christ can we overcome Satan and his trickery.
If We Reject the Truth
We have discussed that the Godhead is totally truth and that Satan is totally a liar. We need to find out what will happen to those who do not accept the truth. 2 Thessalonians 10-12 shows the final state of all who will not obey the plan of salvation. "And with all deceivableness of unrighteousness in them that perish; because they received not the love of the truth, that they might be saved. And for this cause God shall send them strong delusion, that they should believe a lie: That they all might be damned who believe not the truth, but had pleasure in unrighteousness." For more reference, read 2 Thessalonians 1:7-9, "And to you who are troubled rest with us, when the Lord Jesus shall be revealed from heaven with His mighty angels, in flaming fire taking vengeance on them that know not God, and that obey not the gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ: Who shall be punished with everlasting destruction from the presence of the Lord, and from the glory of His power;"
Fallen From the Truth
Paul wrote to the Christians at Galatia and marvelled that they had so soon removed from Him that called them into the grace of Christ unto another gospel. (Galatians 1:6) Paul was amazed that these Christians fell from the truth so easily. Satan doesn't give up on us just because we decide to give up on him and follow Jesus. Satan won't quit until we breathe our last breath.
Some denominations teach that it isn't possible to fall from the truth, once you receive it. The fallacy with this belief is, it isn't equal or congruent to the Word of God. Read James 5:19-20 closely, "Brethren, if any of you do err from the truth, and one convert him; let him know, that he which converteth the sinner from the error of his way shall save a soul from death, and shall hide a multitude of sins." James is talking to Christians. He says that it is possible to err from the truth after you become a Christian. In verse 20, James calls those who err from the truth sinners. I encourage you to read 2 Peter 2:20-22.
How to Present the Truth
Ephesians 4:15 teaches us to ". . . speak the truth in love." We learn a great lesson about truth in Ephesians 4:25, "Wherefore putting away lying, speak every man truth with his neighbor:" This verse teaches us to put away lying. Satan is the father of the lie, so we must not lie. We are to "speak every man truth." If we are to speak truth, we will speak the Word of God, because it is truth.
The last verse we will examine is 2 Timothy 2:15, "Study to show thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth."
If we are going to present God's Word to others, we must first make sure that we know His Word (The Truth), then we can teach others.
