Is God a liar? Perhaps Hebrews 6:18 can help you answer this very important question. "That by two immutable things, in which it was IMPOSSIBLE FOR GOD TO LIE, we might have a strong consolation, who have fled for refuge to lay hold upon the hope set before us."
Before we endeavor to study this verse, we must first come to the conclusion that if this verse is wrong, then the rest of the Bible COULD be wrong too. I say that for this reason, if this verse is wrong and God can and does lie, then how are we to know which verses are right and which verses are wrong? If this can be the case, and we are not sure which verses are true, it would be up to man to figure out what the truth really is. Brethren, if this were true, one man's opinion would be no better nor no worse than any other man's opinion. This, in turn, would make denominationalism right. I could say, "This is what I believe to be true about the Bible, if you believe something totally different to be true, that's perfectly fine because you may be right or I may be right. We will just have to wait till Jesus comes and tells us which parts God actually gave us as inspired truth and which parts He gave us as false propaganda."
If you think God can and does lie in His word, then it will do you no good to read the rest of this article. Besides, you have probably read enough to get the "Warn Fuzzies" anyway. To read any more would be to do more than your fare share for the Lord this week.
God Cannot Lie
Titus 1:2; "In hope of eternal life, which God, that CANNOT LIE, promised before the world began." If we believe that God cannot lie, then could we not also say that everything that He says is the truth? Yes! Once we come to this conclusion we can proceed with any topic of the Bible and know that whatever God's word says about that topic will be true.
This may seem like the long way around, but we must clear up any misunderstandings that we may have about God's word being inerrant and infallible.
Salvation
If we were to discuss the topic of salvation with denominational people, how many different views would we get? The list would be endless. But what if we only took the Bible as our rule of faith and practice, then how many different views would we get? Only one. It is with this thought in mind that I ask you, "What is the plan of salvation?"
It seems that many today have forgotten the simple plan that God has given to us as the only entrance into heaven.
Hear and Believe
John 3:18; "He that BELIEVETH on Him is not condemned: but he that BELIEVETH not is condemned already, because he hath not BELIEVED in the name of the only begotten Son of God."
Romans 10:14; "How then shall they call on Him in whom they have not believed? and how shall they believe in Him of whom they have not heard?"
Repentance
Luke 13:3; "I tell you, Nay: but, except ye REPENT, ye shall all likewise perish."
Acts 2:38; "Then Peter said unto them, REPENT, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost."
Repentance is not simply just another step in this divine plan. It is imperative! Without it salvation cannot be attained.
Confession
Matthew 16:16; "And Simon Peter answered and said, Thou art the Christ, the Son of the living God.'"
Matthew 16:18; "And I say also unto thee, that thou art Peter, and upon this rock (The Confession) I will build my church; and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it."
Romans 10:9; "That if thou shalt CONFESS with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, . . . thou shalt be saved."
Unless we confess that Jesus is the Son of God and Savior of the world then we are directly saying that we do not want or need His sacrifice for our sins.
Baptism
Acts 2:38; "Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be BAPTIZED every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost."
Did God Lie?
If we believe that God did not lie when He inspired all those writers to pen the Word, then we must also believe that this plan of salvation is the only one known to man.
If this is the only plan of salvation known to man, why do so many believe that God might except some who are not obedient to this plan? If you attend a funeral today of someone who has never become a Christian, many will say, "He was a good man, God will probably accept him." If this is true, then there are at least two plans of salvation; one for those want to accept what the Bible says and one for those who do not. Therefore, God has lied and will accept at least two plans of salvation.
Some will say, "He's a big God, He will accept some even though they were not obedient to the plan described in the New Testament." Brethren, if God accepts even one who has not been obedient to His plan as given in the New Testament, what does this make Him? A big God? Not at all. It makes Him a Liar! I ask you again, Is God a Liar?
If God is not a liar, and He has told us the terms upon which He will accept us, then should we not be obedient to those terms?
Hebrews 2:3; "How shall we escape, if we neglect so great salvation. . ."
