In this article concerning the End Time, I would like to discuss the events the premillennialists teach will take place when Christ comes back to establish (as they say) His kingdom.
This time-line will enable us to have some idea as to what will happen when Jesus returns.
Old Testament --> Christ's Death on the Cross --> Church Age --> Rapture--> Tribulation & Antichrist --> Millennial Reign
The premillennialists teach that when Christ returns, He will be crowned as King and rule during a supposed millennial reign.
The biggest fallacy with the entire teaching of a future millennial reign is the fact that in order to believe this whole conglomeration of lies, you have to deny that Christ is reigning NOW. You have to deny that Christ has already been crowned King of kings, and you also have to deny that the King(Jesus) is ruling over His kingdom and that the kingdom is the Church. In essence, in order to believe in a futuristic millennial reign, you have to deny the very deity of Jesus Christ. Are you willing to deny the deity of Christ for a man-made lie?
The Throne Of David
In 2 Samuel 7:11-17, we read these words, "And as since the time that I commanded judges <to be> over my people Israel, and have caused thee to rest from all thine enemies. Also the LORD telleth thee that he will make thee an house. And when thy days be fulfilled, and thou shalt sleep with thy fathers, I will set up thy seed after thee, which shall proceed out of thy bowels, and I will establish his kingdom. He shall build an house for my name, and I will establish the throne of his kingdom for ever. I will be his father, and he shall be my son. If he commit iniquity, I will chasten him with the rod of men, and with the stripes of the children of men: But my mercy shall not depart away from him, as I took <it> from Saul, whom I put away before thee. And thine house and thy kingdom shall be established for ever before thee: Thy throne shall be established for ever. According to all these words, and according to all this vision, so did Nathan speak unto David."
It should be very interesting to us that Nathan tells David that God was going to establish a kingdom that would never fail. It should also interest us to know that God did establish this everlasting kingdom through David's descendant, Jesus Christ.
Let's examine 2 Samuel 7:11-17, in light of several other verses. First read Isaiah 11:10, "And in that day there shall be a root of Jesse, which shall stand for an ensign of the people; to it shall the Gentiles seek: and his rest shall be glorious." Now read Amos 9:11, "In that day will I raise up the tabernacle of David that is fallen, and close up the breaches thereof; and I will raise up his ruins, and I will build it as in the days of old:" We find Isaiah saying that the Gentiles shall seek after someone who is a "root of Jesse." Then in Amos, we learn that the "Tabernacle of David" would be restored.
It may seem that we are going no place fast with these verses, but if you will take the time to view two more verses, you will see that Christ does, in fact, reign NOW, or else you and I CANNOT be Christians.
These verses are found in Acts 15:16,17. It is very important, at this time, to read the whole context of these verses, so that you will realize the depth and the impact that they possess. Verses 16 and 17 read, "After this I will return, and will build again the tabernacle of David, which is fallen down; and I will build again the ruins thereof, and I will set it up: That the residue of men might seek after the Lord, and all the Gentiles, upon whom my name is called, saith the Lord, who doeth all these things."
You may be saying at this time, "What do these verses have to do with the price of tea in China?" However, if you first realize that these verses are some of the verses that the premillennialists use to say that when Christ comes back, He will THEN sit on His throne in Jerusalem. The throne they are referring to is the throne of David that was promised in 2 Samuel 7:11-17.
Secondly, think about the consequences. If Christ doesn't sit on the "Throne of David" until He comes to rule in a millennial reign, then it only stands to reason that the Gentiles cannot seek Him.
I realize that some, or maybe the entire realm, of this particular topic may be foreign to some. However, we must examine any doctrine that comes along through the Biblical microscope. If it is true, it will prove itself. If it is not true, it will show itself full of flaws and misinterpretations.
Logic
To conclude what has been written thus far, we can quickly sum it up in four easy steps:
1. God promised an everlasting kingdom to David through his descendants. (2 Samuel 7:11-17)
2. Isaiah said that the Gentiles would seek to enter this kingdom through the "Root of Jesse," (Jesus Christ). (Isaiah 11:10)
3. Amos wrote a "Tabernacle of David" would be restored. (Amos 9:11)
4. Luke explains, in Acts 15:16,17 that these verses are all fulfilled in Jesus Christ.
Now for some logical questions:
Is Jesus a "Root of Jesse?" (Romans 15:11,12)
Is Jesus a descendant of David? (Matthew 1; Revelation 5:5, 22:16)
Can the Gentiles, at this present time, seek the Lord? (Acts 10 & 11)
Is Christ on the "Throne of David" now? (Acts 2:30,31)
Is Jesus the King of kings now? (If you say "No" to this question, you must say "No" to the next one.)
Are you a Christian?
King David Speaks
The whole discussion of whether or not Christ is sitting on David's throne reigning now, or will at some time in the future return to reign on David's throne, can be solved with just a few words from King David himself.
Peter, in the very first sermon ever recorded to bring men into the Church or kingdom, used some words that David wrote in Psalms 16:10. Here, Peter tells us explicitly what David was talking about. Read carefully Acts 2:30-31, "Therefore being a prophet, and knowing that God had sworn with an oath to him, that the fruit of his loins, according to the flesh, he would raise up Christ to sit on his throne; He seeing this before spake of the resurrection of Christ, that his soul was not left in hell, neither his flesh did see corruption." In these verses, Peter clears up all misconceptions and all misunderstandings that anyone should have concerning Christ sitting on David's throne. Peter says that David was a prophet, and that he foresaw Jesus sitting on his throne. When? At the resurrection of Jesus. Christ started reigning on David's throne at His resurrection.
The Real Future For Christ And David's Throne
If you really want to know what Christ will do with David's throne when He returns for the Church, turn to 1 Corinthians 15:23-28 and read it several times, very carefully.
We find, in these verses, that when Christ comes back, it will not be with the intent to start His reign in His kingdom, but rather, just the opposite. To abolish or destroy death (in hell) and to deliver the Church or the kingdom to God; 1 Corinthians 15:24. ". . . that God may be all in all." (1 Corinthians 15:28)
