Be Ye Doers. . . Of The Word!

Do not merely listen to the word, and so deceive yourselves. Do what it says." (James 1:22-NIV)

Why do some people believe in the Bible, Heaven, Hell, God and Jesus? We can also turn the question around and ask, "Why do some people not believe in the Bible, Heaven, Hell, God and Jesus?"

It seems like no matter what the topic of discussion, you always have some for and some against the issue. The reason for this is each individual perceives things differently in his or her own mind. Therefore, we have differences of opinion. But what about topics such as those mentioned above? Can there actually be differences of opinion concerning them? Since every individual has his or her own mind, and can rationally deduct what is good reasoning, let's examine each of the above topics. As we go through each topic, use your own mind, your own reasoning, to come to a logical conclusion.

The Bible

Those who say that the Bible is not the inspired word of God have to overlook the inerrancy of the contents within the pages of the book. They have to realize that there is no other book that can tell mankind where he came from or where he shall return. (Some may say other religions have books that teach these things.) If you don't believe the Bible, why believe another book that would teach the same thing or even worse, something different? People who don't believe that the Bible is the inspired Word of God are forced to believe that the Bible is the biggest book of lies ever written.

Christianity

Christians believe that the Bible is the inspired, inerrant, infallible Word of God, that "All Scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness:" (2 Timothy 3:16)

Christians also must believe in the fate that will come upon them if they are not obedient to the Bible (God's Word). Far be it from me to tell you how to believe, you must make your own decision.

Heaven

Evolutionists believe that man evolved through a process taking millions of years. They believe that man exists but will not go anywhere when he/she dies. Others may hold similar views. To believe that there is no Heaven is the same as saying, "This is it. Whatever you do or accumulate in this life is all that you have, make the best of it." To believe that there is no Heaven is also to believe in no higher life forms. (Unless, maybe in another million years or so, evolution brings on something smarter that will take the place of "silly mankind".)

Christianity

Christians believe that Heaven is the abode of God. If we are obedient to God's Word, we will also dwell in Heaven with God someday. Far be it for me to tell you how to believe. You must make your own decision.

Hell

It is truly odd that more people do not believe in Hell than those who do not believe in Heaven. Most everybody wants to believe in Heaven and would like to go there. A great many, however, would like to think that there is no Hell. Those who believe that there is no Hell have to believe that there is no Satan. Why? Satan is evil, and because of this fact, he can't dwell in Heaven. So if there is no Hell, but there is a devil, where is he going to stay after this life? Those who believe that there is no Hell have to believe that sinners will not live forever after this life or that they will go to Heaven.

Christianity

Christians believe that God has created Hell for the wicked, 2 Peter 2:4-9. Christians believe and obey God so they will not go to Hell after this life. Far be it for me to tell you how to believe. You must make your own decision.

God

People who normally hold the "No God" religion are generally called atheists. These same people will usually agree that the earth, planets and stars evolved, just like man.

Atheists say that they don't believe in religion. Ask yourself this question, "What is religion?" Webster's New World Dictionary defines religion as, "the belief in a divine or super human power or powers to be worshipped as the creator(s) and ruler(s) of the universe.

The atheists say that they believe in no god, but that the universe created itself. If they "believe" that the universe created itself, they have a belief in something super human. Therefore, they should worship their god: evolution. Failure to worship the earth, planets and stars, doesn't prove that there is no God, it simply proves their ignorance of their own beliefs, their ignorance of their own religion.

Christianity

Christians believe that God is the all powerful (omnipotent), all knowing (omniscience), all present (omnipresent) creator of the universe. (Genesis 1:1) God is perfect truth. Far be it for me to tell you how to believe. You must make your own decision.

Jesus

Some believe that Jesus was a good man, but not God's Son, the Messiah, come to take away the sins of the world. People who believe this must not know what they believe. Jesus was either who He said He was or He was the biggest liar the world has ever known. Jesus could not have been a good man and run around telling everyone that He was the Son of God.

Some people believe that Jesus, the Messiah, has not come yet. The Jews hold this belief. Do the Jews really believe this? If they do, they are like the atheist believing something and not practicing what they believe.

If the Messiah hasn't come yet, then we are not bound by the New Testament. Hebrews chapter 9 makes this point very clear. The New Testament could not come into effect until after the death of the testator (Jesus Christ).

This brings us to the conclusion that if the Messiah has not come, like the Jews say, then everyone is still bound by the Old Testament. Therefore, the Jews would still have to offer sacrifices and burnt offerings to God for their sins. Only a few Jews today offer any sacrifices at all.

Christianity

Christians believe that Jesus is the Son of God, that He was born of a virgin, that He died on the cross, was buried, and three days later rose from the dead and is now at the right hand of God with all power and authority. But far be it for me to tell you how to believe. You must make your own decision.

The topics discussed here are basic beliefs. Many people reading this have believed in the Bible, Heaven, Hell, God and Jesus for many years. Why write about these things? Every now and then we need to review the basics and realize that it is upon these basic beliefs and others that we place all our faith. We need to also realize that what we hold as basic beliefs (things that seem simple and logical to us), others do not understand at all, or they have been persuaded by others to believe something totally different.

We must always study to come to a better knowledge and a deeper understanding of God's Word. We must also understand that others which we may come into contact with may not even understand the basics of what the Bible teaches. We must, therefore, never cease to take God's Word to those who need to hear it.

"For though I be free from all men, yet have I made myself servant unto all, that I might gain the more. And unto the Jews I became as a Jew, that I might gain the Jews; to them that are under the law, as under the law, that I might gain them that are under the law; to them that are without law, as without law, (being not without law to God, but under the law to Christ), that I might gain them that are without law. To the weak became I as weak, that I might gain the weak: I am made all things to all men, that I might by all means save some. And this I do for the gospel's sake, that I might be partaker thereof with you. (1 Corinthians 9:19-23)
